Sign on Little Monadnock Mt.
Fitzwilliam offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities, including fishing, bicycling, tennis and canoeing, but the hiking and mountain climbing are what bring many back year after year. Spend the afternoon strolling down picturesque country roads. Or challenge yourself to the ascent of Mt. Monadnock, a mere 4 miles away in Jaffrey. Rhododendron State Park is accessible from dawn until dusk and is incomparable when the rhododendrons are in bloom. Gap Mountain State Recreation Area in Troy offers a short climb with a spectacular view of Mt. Monadnock at the top. And the Metacomet-Monadnock trail runs through the northwest corner of Fitzwilliam, crossing both Little Monadnock and Gap Mountain, offering a chance for real backcountry hiking.
